LOS ANGELES FAMILIES · GRADES 5–8

Online Writing and Critical-Thinking Classes for Los Angeles Families

Raise a child who can think and write for themselves.

From Santa Monica to Pasadena, give your child a place to develop their ideas, find the words, and share what they think. Small, live online classes make room for real teaching without adding another drive to your week.

BUILT FOR LOS ANGELES FAMILIES

Strong schools. Full calendars. Room to think.

A good school can open doors. Your child still needs time to make sense of a difficult passage, question an idea, and explain their own view. In Los Angeles, that work often competes with sports, rehearsals, homework, and a long trip home.

Because we are fully online, your child joins small live classes from anywhere in LA, with no drive across town. A family in Beverly Hills gets the same teacher-led experience as one in Pasadena or Manhattan Beach.

We welcome families across Santa Monica, Pacific Palisades, Brentwood, Bel Air, Calabasas, Malibu, Hermosa Beach, South Pasadena, San Marino, La Cañada Flintridge, Studio City, Sherman Oaks, Encino, and Palos Verdes. Whether your child attends a public school, an independent school, or learns at home, the question is the same: can they explain what they think, with confidence and care?

WHEN YOUR CHILD HATES WRITING

They have something to say. Getting it onto paper can be hard.

You ask about their day and hear a wonderful story. You ask them to write it down and suddenly there is nothing to say. Or one short paragraph turns into an evening of reminders, bargaining, and starting again.

When a parent tells us, “My child hates writing,” we look beyond the unfinished page. Does your child know how to choose an idea? Can they put it in order? Have they had enough chances to say it aloud before writing?

Instead of handing over another worksheet, we help children practise those steps in a live group of about twelve. A published educator guides the conversation, makes the thinking visible, and gives feedback a child can use. Learning how to write better starts with having a way forward, not with being told to try harder.

WHAT YOUR CHILD LEARNS

Eight months. Ideas that become work they can stand behind.

The program meets online for 90 minutes each week. Children begin by finding worthwhile ideas and shaping clear sentences. They move into connected paragraphs, longer responses, and essays that give a reader a reason to keep reading.

Along the way, reading and conversation feed the writing. Your child learns to notice what a text actually says, distinguish a claim from its support, and explain why they agree or disagree. They try an idea aloud, hear another perspective, and return to the page with something more considered to say.

Your child practises how to:

  • Turn a broad thought into a focused paragraph or essay.

  • Support an opinion with relevant examples and evidence.

  • Read closely and explain meaning in their own words.

  • Join a discussion, listen carefully, and speak with reasons.

  • Revise deliberately and recognise the voice in their own work.

The journey leads to a selected portfolio and an original book, with opportunities to talk about the work they have made. Confidence grows through that practice and ownership.

MORE THAN TUTORING

Support for the next assignment. Skills for the years ahead.

If you are searching for an online writing tutor in Los Angeles, you may need help with something due this week. That kind of support has its place. TLP serves a longer purpose: helping your child develop the writing, reasoning, and communication habits they can carry into future work.

Our eight-month sequence connects those habits instead of treating each assignment as a fresh rescue. For families seeking writing help for private school in Los Angeles, it develops the thoughtful explanations and evidence-based writing that demanding schoolwork calls for. It is academic enrichment beyond tutoring, not ISEE preparation or a promise of admission.

WHO TEACHES

Meet Ms. M, the teacher listening to your child’s ideas.

Manpreet Kaur, founder and literacy educator at The Learners Pathway, speaking into a microphone.

Manpreet Kaur brings a Leeds-trained literacy educator’s understanding of how children learn, alongside the working knowledge of an author of seven books. She has guided more than 350 students.

In class, that experience becomes a practical question: what will help this child take their next step independently? She helps children talk through an idea, try a clearer explanation, and understand the purpose of a revision. Parents get a real educator to speak with, and children get a teacher who takes their thinking seriously.

LOS ANGELES FAQ

Questions from LA parents

Do you offer in-person classes in Los Angeles, or online?

All teaching happens live online. Your child joins the teacher and their small group from home, so there is no classroom commute across Los Angeles.

What ages or grades is this for?

The program serves Grades 5–8, usually ages 10–14. We discuss your child’s current writing and learning needs before recommending a place.

Which parts of LA do you serve?

Families can join from anywhere in Greater Los Angeles, including Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, Pasadena, Calabasas, the South Bay, Glendale, and Burbank. Online classes also welcome Orange County families, including Santa Ana, Buena Park, Irvine, and Newport Beach, as well as the Bay Area and beyond.

How is this different from an LA tutor?

Rather than working through one school assignment at a time, children follow an eight-month sequence that brings writing, thinking, reading, and communication together. The aim is greater independence across assignments.

What does it cost and what is the commitment?

Tuition is $299 per month for eight months, $2,392 in total. Monthly payments spread the cost of the full program. This is an eight-month enrollment commitment. We explain placement, payment options, and enrollment terms on your discovery call before you decide.

How do we start?

Choose a free discovery call. Tell us what writing looks like at home and what you hope will change. We will listen, answer your questions, and discuss whether the program suits your child.

YOUR NEXT STEP

A clearer next step for your child starts with a conversation.

Bring your questions, including the ones you are still working out. Your discovery call is warm, free, and without pressure or an obligation to enroll.
